NDIS home modifications aren’t one size fits all: ask half a million Australians

NDIS home modifications aren’t one size fits all: ask half a million Australians

Living with a disability can be challenging, and for many individuals, modifying their homes becomes a necessity. In Australia alone, there are approximately 4.4 million people living with disability, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in 2022.

12 per cent of these individuals require custom home modifications to enhance their accessibility and independence – whilst also promoting a sense of empowerment and inclusivity – which equates to over half a million Australians in need of specialised modifications.

Custom home modifications for NDIS participants

NDIS home modifications are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every disability, situation and person are unique, which calls for custom home modifications and personalised NDIS solutions that cater to your needs. This is where Restore Home Modifications comes in – our NDIS approved builders in Melbourne and Victoria are equipped with the expertise and experience to provide solutions to the challenges facing individuals with disability.

At Restore Home Modifications, we understand that no two disabilities are the same. Our team comprises dedicated personnel who are well-versed in providing customised solutions for each client. We have professionals with a range of skills, from occupational therapists to NDIS approved builders and designers, ensuring that we can support individuals with disability, regardless of their needs.

While NDIS participants may be our focus, by no means are they the only people we support. Our home modifications can benefit everyone. We provide accessibility building services to residential homes, supported disability accommodation homes, residential aged care facilities, respite and palliative care facilities, hospitals and medical clinics and commercial and retail properties.

How we can make your home more accessible

NDIS bathroom modifications

One area where we specialise is NDIS bathroom modifications. We understand the challenges that individuals with disability face when using bathrooms, and we work closely with our clients to create accessible and functional spaces. From installing grab bars and handrails to modifying showers and toilets, our team has the expertise to transform bathrooms into safe and comfortable environments.

Home access solutions

Getting in and out of your home – whether on foot, with aids or using a wheelchair – needs to be easy and safe. In addition to accessibility ramp installation, we can also make getting in and out easier with:

  • Steps
  • Handrails
  • Concrete paths
  • Slip-resistant surfaces
  • Platform lifts
  • Hazard removal

Depending on your specific needs, our NDIS registered builders can provide a range of home access solutions to get you in and out of your home with comfort and ease.

Kitchen modifications

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of cooking and meal preparation, regardless of their abilities. Our team can design and install accessible kitchen features, such as adjustable-height countertops, pull-out shelves and easy-to-reach appliances, allowing you to fully prepare your own meals.

Home automation for people with disability

Many functions around your home can now be controlled through your voice or smartphone, providing you with greater independence and convenience within your home. From smart lighting and voice-controlled devices, to automated door openers and window controls, our team can integrate cutting-edge technology and home automation solutions that make daily tasks more manageable for individuals with disability.

Accessible bedrooms for NDIS participants

Bedrooms are an essential part of any home, and we recognise the importance of creating a comfortable and accessible space for individuals with disability. At Restore Home Modifications, we design and modify bedrooms to meet the unique needs of our clients.

Whether it’s installing adjustable beds, accessible storage solutions, or optimising the layout for mobility aids, our team is dedicated to creating a bedroom environment that promotes rest, relaxation and independence.

Maintenance and upgrades

Maintaining a safe and functional home is crucial for individuals with disability. We understand that regular maintenance and upgrades are necessary to ensure the longevity of NDIS home modifications and to address any issues that may arise.

At Restore Home Modifications, we offer maintenance services tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Our team can provide regular inspections, repairs and updates to keep home modifications in optimal condition, giving individuals peace of mind and confidence in their living environment.

More than just homes – other ways we can support you

Helping you access NDIS funding

In addition to providing NDIS home modifications that improve accessibility, safety and comfort, we also offer funding application support. Our team help you with funding applications for various streams, including:

  • The NDIS
  • Transport Accident Commission
  • Home Care Packages
  • Work Cover
  • The Department of Veterans’ Affairs

This ensures that individuals have access to the necessary financial resources to make their homes more suitable for their specific needs.

NDIS Building Works Project Managers

Some home modification projects can involve multiple contractors, builders, and installations. Managing all of these on your own can be a lot of work, which is why the NDIS offers additional funding for project management services for complicated projects.

For complex NDIS home modifications, Restore Home Modifications can act as an independent Building Works Project Manager, overseeing your project and supporting you throughout your journey. We provide independent management and assessment services for your project, ensuring that it progresses on-time, on-budget and that it meets your unique needs and requirements.

Accessible outdoor spaces for people with disability

Creating an inclusive and welcoming home doesn’t stop with interior modifications – outdoor spaces are equally important. At Restore Home Modifications, we recognise the significance of accessible garden and outdoor design in enhancing the overall accessibility and enjoyment of a home for individuals with disability.

Our NDIS approved builders can create accessible pathways, ramps and outdoor seating areas to ensure that your property is safe, navigable and aesthetically pleasing both inside and out. We consider the specific needs and preferences of our clients, incorporating features such as raised garden beds or sensory gardens to provide a holistic and enjoyable outdoor experience.

What is our home modification process?

Restore Home Maintenance follows a four-stage process for a seamless client experience. The first stage involves obtaining funding approval, either through NDIS or HCP. The second stage includes a site inspection to assess the proposed modifications and develop a comprehensive scope of works.

In the third stage, approved construction works are carried out with the assistance of a project manager. Finally, a final inspection is conducted, and a Completion Report is provided, along with a client satisfaction survey.
